I’m not the artist I want to be. I’m the artist the world needs me to be.

Every Home Deserves a Smiley Heart
On that hospital bed, God spoke seven words that changed everything: “You are not dying. Focus on the Smiley Heart. Because every home deserves one.”

Not every business. Not every church. Not every platform. Every home.

Why home? Because home is where the breaking happens first. The marriage falls apart. The child is silenced. The trauma lives. But home is also where healing begins. Where someone says “I see you” for the first time. If you cannot bring the Smiley Heart home, you do not actually have it.

A Smiley Heart home is not a perfect home. There are still arguments and tired days and talking past each other. But there is also grace. A commitment to stay when staying is hard. A Smiley Heart home is not a museum of happy memories. It is a workshop where broken things get repaired.

Here is the test. If you can facilitate a workshop for a hundred people but cannot have a patient conversation with your spouse, your Smiley Heart is not awake. If you can write a book about purpose but cannot play with your children, it is not awake. The Smiley Heart starts at home. Or it does not start at all.

My wife stayed. Four miscarriages. One stillborn. A brain injury. She stayed. That is a Smiley Heart home. Not because we never fought. But because we kept choosing each other. Day after day. Healing after healing.

Go home today. Not to the building. To the people. Ask yourself: Have I brought my Smiley Heart here? If you left it at the door, go get it. Because every home deserves one. Including yours.

I Woke Up to What I Was Doing
On the hospital bed, God’s Holy Spirit spoke to me:

“You are not dying. Focus on the Smiley Heart™. Because every home deserves one.”

And then He started unpacking everything.

What I had been doing for years without knowing why it worked, suddenly had articulation. Value. Meaning.

He showed me the framework I had been living but couldn’t name.

He made sense of why it was working. Ngavuka, ngahlakanipha. Manje I’m here to serve.
It was not easy but I’ve gained a lot, now able to integrate all my life’s experiences into this mission.
I want to be one of the reasons the world has a Smiley Heart, at work, home, socially, spiritually, alone.

Back then, I was Pap-N-Zol.

Now? I’m Mr Smiley Heart.

She Stayed
Today I turn 46.

But I’m not posting my face. I’m posting hers.

Because without her, there is no me to celebrate.

We’ve walked through fire together. Four miscarriages. One stillborn.

She stayed.

From that pain, she wrote “I Never Saw Her Eyes: Gaining from a Painful Loss.” Then more books. Then a publishing company. Then helping others turn their wounds into words.

Then 2023. The brain injury that should have ended my story.

She stayed.

In the trauma ward. Through the invisible ticking clock. Through the healing nobody could guarantee.

She stayed.

Four kids later. Faith intact. Love still standing.

The Resistance didn’t account for her.

She is my Smiley Heart™ lived out.

I Was Healed For the Future I Haven’t Touched Yet
Born 1 April 1980.
Today, I turn 46.

And I’m still here.

The blow that was meant to end me didn’t just take things away. It showed me what I was still carrying.

In the silence between collapse and standing again, I faced a question I’d never asked myself before: What if the work I’ve already done isn’t the reason I’m still here?

I realized something that changed everything.

I wasn’t healed for what I had already done.
I was healed for what I hadn’t yet touched.

The creative ideas still waiting to be born.
The lives still waiting to be transformed.
The vehicles of impact still waiting to be built.

The Resistance can attack what you’ve already built.
It can try to silence what you’ve already said.
It can even try to take what you’ve already become.

But it cannot touch what you haven’t yet released into the world.

That future, the one you’re still carrying becomes your anchor when everything else is falling apart.

That’s what pulled me through. Not the healing I had already experienced. Not the work I had already done. But the work I was still here to do.

Your Smiley Heart™ isn’t just what you’ve created.
It’s what you’re still here to create.

I look at this photo of me in Grade 1, 1986. A boy who had no idea what he would carry. What he would survive. What he would build.

But the Smiley Heart™ was already there. Waiting. Ready for everything that hadn’t yet been touched.

46 years later, I understand.

I wasn’t just born that day.
I was being prepared for this one.

Healed for the future I haven’t touched yet.

The Trap of the Beautiful Story

Early in my 10-year journey to build Smiley Heart™ World, a friend looked at my concepts and said: “I’m tired of these beautiful stories, but no real change. Where is the change?”

After 26 years in the creative sector, I thought I knew what I was doing. But that “reboot” 10 years ago was different. At first, I didn’t take his words well. But right there, I realized a hard truth: The vision belongs to the visionary.

I had incredible support—my wife, my mentors, and my friends—who kept me standing. Without them, I wouldn’t have made it through this decade. But I had to carry the 90% of the work that nobody sees. That wasn’t “lonely” work; it was the demand of the vision. My friend’s words weren’t a lack of support—they were the exact “push” I needed to move from the story to the system.

The trap wasn’t the long road or the hard work; the trap was believing that telling a “beautiful story” was the same as creating “real change.”

I was wrong.

The story is just the invitation. The change happens when you stop talking about the heart and start building the vehicles that make an impact for the next generation.

Before you conclude, remember: Don’t mistake a hard push for a lack of love. Sometimes, the person who challenges your “story” is the one helping you build your “success.”

Support Wears Different Outfits

We often call people “haters” or “absent” when they don’t show up for us during our crisis. But my brain injury taught me a hard lesson about grace.

While I was fighting for my life, some of my closest friends were fighting their own silent traumas. We couldn’t support each other in the “old way.” They weren’t being “haters”—they were just “lifing.” Life was hitting them just as hard as it was hitting me.

Don’t get stuck in an old version of what support should look like. Sometimes, the person you think is ignoring you is actually just trying to survive their own “Noise.” Before you judge, remember: You’ve also had moments where you couldn’t show up because you were broken, too.

Stop the labels. Choose grace. Often, the “absent” friend is just a fellow survivor in a different ward.

The Invisible Ticking Clock

I remember the first doctor I went to see after the attack. I was told it was just whiplash—nothing to worry about. For an entire month, I walked around with a ticking clock inside my head. The system couldn't see the invisible battle happening inside my brain.

The Resistance thrives when it is hidden. It whispers that you’re fine while the pressure builds. It wasn't until I collapsed a month later that the truth came out.

I had to learn the hard way: My value is not about how much work I can "do" or how fast I can run. My value is about who I am in God’s hands.

I am a brain injury survivor. My Smiley Heart™️ World work became my road to healing. Two years away from my 10-year milestone, I know now that the blow didn't take my life—it gave me a new mission.

BRAIN INJURY LESSON: 2
That Which Lies Beyond the Beautiful Gate Has No Room for Unforgiveness
There is a phrase that came to me as I was writing this. A phrase that I believe is from the Spirit.

“That which lies beyond the beautiful gate has no room for unforgiveness.”

I think of the Beautiful Gate in the book of Acts. The gate where the lame man sat every day, begging for alms. The gate where Peter and John passed, and where they said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”

That gate was beautiful. But what lay beyond it was more beautiful. The temple courts. The presence of God. The place where heaven and earth met.

And that place had no room for unforgiveness.

You cannot carry bitterness into the presence of God. You cannot hold onto resentment and stand before the throne of grace. The weight of unforgiveness will keep you from entering. It will keep you at the gate, begging for alms, while the healing you need is just beyond.

This is why you must learn to let go. Not because the person who hurt you deserves your forgiveness. But because you deserve to be free. Because your Spectrum deserves to be healed. Because you cannot carry what was done to you and also carry what God wants to give you.

Be Heart Smart & Street Smart

My brain injury taught me something simple but powerful. Life requires both compassion and awareness. A good heart must also be guided by wisdom, because not everyone who smiles with you is walking with you.
